Workshops and certifications aimed at training educators to effectively teach robotics and STEAM in schools.

The Teacher Training Programs offered by the OECS Robotics Association (OECSRA) are designed to equip educators with the necessary tools, methodologies, and resources to effectively teach robotics, coding, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in their classrooms. These programs aim to bridge the gap between technology and education, ensuring that teachers are well-prepared to inspire and engage the next generation of innovators.

Through a combination of hands-on workshops, certification courses, and ongoing support, our training programs focus on building both the technical skills and pedagogical approaches required to successfully integrate robotics and STEAM into school curricula. We empower educators to create an interactive and engaging learning environment, where students not only learn about technology but also develop the critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills essential for success in the 21st century.

Key Components of the Teacher Training Programs:

  1. Workshops on Robotics and Coding
Educators will participate in practical, hands-on workshops where they learn to build and program robots using platforms such as LEGO Mindstorms, VEX Robotics, Arduino, and REV Robotics. These workshops are designed to give teachers the confidence and competence to deliver robotics lessons to students of all ages.

  2. STEAM Curriculum Design and Implementation
Teachers will gain the skills needed to integrate STEAM subjects effectively, blending science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into a cohesive and interdisciplinary curriculum. The program provides educators with the knowledge to design, implement, and assess STEAM projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.

  3. Pedagogical Training for Effective Teaching
Beyond the technical aspects, the program focuses on how to engage students, facilitate project-based learning, and create a collaborative classroom environment. Teachers will learn how to inspire their students to be curious, creative, and resourceful in their approach to solving problems.

  4. Certification and Continued Support
Upon successful completion of the training, educators receive certifications that recognize their new expertise in teaching robotics and STEAM. Additionally, teachers will have access to a network of fellow educators, ongoing professional development opportunities, and support from the OECSRA team, ensuring they continue to grow and succeed in their teaching journey.

  5. Integration of Industry Tools and Best Practices
The program incorporates real-world industry tools and best practices, ensuring that teachers are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills that align with current trends in robotics and STEAM education. This also helps students gain an understanding of how technology is applied in various industries.

  6. Collaboration and Community Engagement
Teachers are encouraged to collaborate with peers, share teaching strategies, and develop local robotics and STEAM initiatives in their schools. This collaborative environment fosters a community of passionate educators working together to enhance the quality of STEM education in the region.

Why Participate?

Our Teacher Training Programs are ideal for educators who want to:

  • Enhance their teaching abilities and stay current with the latest trends in technology and education.

  • Equip their students with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

  • Foster a love for STEAM subjects and inspire students to pursue careers in technology and innovation.

  • Build a network of like-minded educators dedicated to improving the quality of STEM education in the Caribbean.

By the end of the program, teachers will be fully equipped to introduce and manage robotics and STEAM education in their schools, ensuring that their students gain hands-on experience and a strong foundation in technology that will serve them for years to come.
